"Marty Rudnick, a pure pop guy from the
old, melodic school, crashes
into the crazy, lazy, hazy days of summer with a swinging sampler of
sweet, harmony-filled treats that delights like no other collection of
songs about cars and girls. A pure pop winner of extraordinary
proportions!"

Marty Rudnick - More Songs About Cars And
Girls (Sandbox): But will they be heard? Rudnick has a pleasant
voice and his talent as a songwriter is well-developed, as evidenced by
this collection of sunny California-inflected pop. He obviously loves
The Beach Boys, but many of his songs are more in the pop-rock vein of
Marshall Crenshaw and Dwight Twilley, with a Brian Wilson gloss.
Working with producer Michael Carpenter, this disc is consistently
entertaining, whether Rudnick dons a cowboy hat for a Western
influenced tale on "Coyote" or blisses out with the soft pop Curt
Boettcher-esque lilt of "Lucky Day". But Rudnick's bread and butter
comes in the form of happy go lucky pop tunes with simple melodies and
harmony vocals. "Yes I Will", an old Hollies tune written by Gerry
Goffin and Russ Titleman, is Merseybeat by way of Malibu, a marriage
that works quite well, and "Some Summer" sounds just like a summer
single should sound, and how can you go wrong with that? Particularly
when you bring in some impressive hired guns to help out on the
harmonies, with Rubinoos Tommy Dunbar and Al Chan doing what they do
best, which is sing perfectly. Rudnick throws in some bonus demos,
doing swell versions of The Beatles' "Yes It Is" and The Beach Boys'
"Til I Die". A sterling pop effort.

Further
Observations From A Jangly Music Fan
More Songs About
Cars and
Girls - by Marty Rudnick. Michael Carpenters musicianship and
production shine through on this wonderful summer-themed disc that
should appeal to Beach Boys fans in particular and folks who love
melodic, harmony-drenched pop music in general. If this were the 60s,
most of these tunes would be competing for pop radio airplay. Chiming
guitar riffs abound on tracks like Some Summer, Julie, Every
Single Day and Only Heaven Knows. There are some very cool hidden
tracks: Lennon/McCartneys Yes It Is, Brian Wilsons Til I Die and
a couple of vocal only tracks. A 2006 Top Ten disc for sure! Long may
you run, Sir Marty!

BLURB-O-RAMA [2.3]
MARTY RUDNICK More Songs About Cars and Girls (Sandbox) Marty
Rudnick? Isnt he a Rubinoos associate and one of the guys behind
Sandbox Records. True, but Marty Rudnick is also a singer-songwriter in
his own write and what he specializes in is Merseybeach which is
supposed to suggest a hybrid of the Beatles and the Beach Boys. Which
is probably the best way to describe Cars and Girls and 60s pop fans
will positively lap this up. Oh and Michael Carpenter produces as well.
No brainer, pop fans! |

USER REVIEWS:
Positive, catchy,
heartfelt and harmonious music for the soul
Reviewer: John Hunter Phillips
Starting
off with his infectious pop beauty, Some Summer ... a great nod to the
harmoniuos genius of the Beach Boys at their light-hearted best, and
rounding off with On My Way Home ... sure-fire proof that he has been
influenced by McCartney and Lennon, my ears revel in the unabashed
celebration of life which Marty reveals in this fabulous CD. Hints of
'Top 40' from the 60's, coupled with his own fresh imaginative vocals ,
melodic writing skills, arrangements and production style (kudos to
Michael Carpenter), this entire collection of songs will keep your mind
at the beach 365 days a year ! It's unpretencious and yet solid. We all
need more Marty Rudnick music in our lives. I know I did. Thanks,
Marty. !! JHP
A fun record, full of smiles!
Reviewer: Don Giller
This
is a wonderful album; what stands out is the sheer energy and fun of
recording these tracks; there are homages to the Beach Boys
("Situation"), the Beatles ("Bowling Green") and early '70s Grateful
Dead ("Coyote"). And a George Harrison atmosphere surrounds "Julie" (no
doubt helped by the terrific slide guitar). The production is
sparkling, and the playing is tight but with room for breath. Wait 'til
you hear the "Wall of Marty" demo of "'Til I Die"; it'll make your soul
shiver with delight.
Grab this now; your senses will thank you.
